Introduction
Dr. Robert Sutter specialized in Asian and Pacific Affairs and US foreign policy in a US government career of 33 years involving the Congressional Research Service of the Library of Congress, the Central Intelligence Agency, the Department of State, and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. His most recent book is "The United States and China: Perilous Past and Pragmatic Present" (Rowman and Littlefield 2010). We are delighted to have Dr. Sutter to share his views on the topic: "China's Rise in Asian and World Affairs: U.S. Debate over the Implications for the United States and U.S. policy"

Seminar by Prof. Takeshi Hamashita - Viewing sovereignty from the new perspective

Professor Hamashita Takeshi is a senior scholar of history who has focused on the network of trade, migration, and financial remittances in Asia. Professor Hamashita has played a pioneering role in the creation of a historical image of Asia as a regional order using novel methods. He has won plaudits both in Japan and overseas for remaking the Western-oriented perspective of world history and the view of Asian history focused on nation-states.
