Background

The Hong Kong International Relations Research Association (IRRA) was established in 2007 and is the first international relations focused organization in Hong Kong. It is an affiliated professional association of the Roundtable Community. Sharing a similar organizational agenda with the Roundtable Community, IRRA is a non-profit and non-political association that seeks to bring together all individuals interested in international relations. IRRA aims to promote and foster up-to-date reviews and discussions of international affairs through the contributions of scholars and professionals working in the different fields of social sciences: international relations, political studies, sociology, media and communications to name but a few. IRRA organizes meetings with senior scholars and officials for the purpose of bringing professional and academic discussions to the fore on a variety of issues. Conferences and proceeding publications of IRRA have the potential to provide both professional guidance and information for academics, policy makers, journalists and anyone who are interested in international politics and the mechanisms of inter-state politics in the world order.

Mission Statement

IRRA is a professional organization established to maintain the global entities of Hong Kong people and seeks to fill in the vacuum for the advancement of global vision in Hong Kong as well as, in the broad sense, promote global vision as juxtaposition to the official promotion of national education.
IRRA provides, therefore, a platform for effective cooperation and make available a collegial environment for individuals who are concerned with the vivid dynamics of international politics. IRRA will, in this regard, publish reports on panel discussions and research outputs in a systematic manner. IRRA also aims to cultivate global vision and awareness in the community by promoting critical analysis and policy recommendations from an international perspective. By doing so, a deeper understanding of world order will be enhanced. Lastly, IRRA serves to maintain and strengthen a network of social scientists, historians, journalists, educators, public administrators and other professionals in related disciplines. Through this effort, a more substantial dialogue will be promoted.

Activities and Community Outreach

To promote intellectual participation, IRRA will maintain regular activities to keep the momentum going for our current members and perspective audiences. Regular activities will include monthly meetings and bi-weekly discussions on various issues and hot topics within international relations. Electronic newsletters will also be circulated to our members. Newsletters may include reports on international news, written commentaries on a wide variety of primary and marginalised international topics. At another level, in order to develop global vision within the new and young generation, IRRA coordinates education programs in the form of seminars and excursions.
